Just like we have everything,
We could have had nothing.
No natural law prescribes
Hot water in the tub,
Apples in the pantry,
Body cream and lotion.

Farewell, Cassini
Farewell, Cassini

As I read the “news”
Dress, put on my creams,
I need to remind myself
“This” exists over there,
Having its own niche around our common sun,
One of many, I know,
Nothing unique, I know,
But it’s our star,
And this remote moon shares it with us,
Savoring whatever grace reaches its way.
It is not like home, sweet home, Earth.
It’s farther, colder,
Yet strangely familiar.
Not a total surprise.
And maybe that’s what’s surprising,
Or not…
Of course there’s water,
Why shouldn’t there be?
In its weird mundanity,
It’s still a home away from home,
Forever present in our dreams,
The basic substratum of our consciousness,
Sometimes emerging when we make love…
Our planetary deserts reminds us –
We know what it’s like:
Pre- human, pre-animal, pre- greenery.
There’s that Recognition.
Billions of lonely years
Just Being There…
Or an hour and fifteen minutes
Until its light reaches our screens
And those of our minds.
Farewell, Cassini,
Yours truly.
