Neve Ilan Protesting Media; Knesset Emergency Call
Neve Ilan protest was a rally against compromised, biased media. Then we were rushed to an emergency Knesset rally where our democracy had just died. The Knesset chairman overruled a majority decision to establish an independent investigation committee into the submarine affair, Bibi’s Case 3000.

Trojan Horse at Balfour & Subs at Democracy Square
Trojan horse and submarine dummies were exhibited in Democracy Square for the Balfour Demonstration following the Big Submarine March. The Revolution at its creative best. and an update: a beautiful statue of Israel Hero, the protester was erected in the square and confiscated by police in the wee hours of the night.

Or-Ly Barlev and the Alternative Media – Israel in Protests
Appendix to Big Submarine Protest post. Or-Ly Barlev and other alternative media outlets fill a reporting gap in the Israeli media scene, especially regarding the anti-Bibi protests. Here, as in other marches and demonstrations, she reports and records the proceedings, police misbehavior and gives voice to the protesters.

The Big Submarine March & Israel’s Politicized Police
The Big Submarine March from Hemed to Jerusalem was brutally obstructed by police, who dumped the subs on the roadsides, arrested protesters and blocked the road, yet we arrived triumphantly at Balfour, subs and all.

Cross-Country Submarine Flotilla & the Missing Media
The submarine flotilla cross country event was one of the largest and better organized events of the Israeli anti-Netanyahu protest movement. I am trying to do it justice, since the compromised mainstream media largely chose, or was instructed, to ignore it.

Crime Minister and Israel Rising: Protesting Netanyahu
Israel rising – Bibi uses the coronavirus crisis to escape trial, establish dictatorship. We, aware citizen, won’t let him. First post in series about protests and spirit you do not hear much on the mainstream media, here or abroad.

Dor Habonim Reserve on a Stormy Day
Dor Habonim Nature Reserve on a stormy morning off-season presernts beautiful vistas and forlorn, landscapes.

Bitronot Ruhama Reserve, Northern Negev Tranquility
Bitronot Ruhama is a unique nature reserve in Israel’s Negev, featuring spring wildflowers, desert trees, rolling hills among deep crevasses. It is located by Kibbutz Ruhama with its own interesting history and tourist attractions.

Knesset Protest and the Moment the Penny Dropped
At the Knesset protest of September 29th for freedom of demonstration, the penny dropped for me that Israel was no longer a democracy. Police brutallly attacked a perfectly legal banner and the beautiful youth protecting it.

Olive picking – My First Masik
Wartime volunteering opportunities offered me my first opportunity at olive picking, or Masik, An uplifting experience, physically, mentally and socially. I discovered that a Jewish masik can be just as joyful as the Arab ones. We picked Manzanillo, an edible strain using rakes.

Olive Branches of Peace, Beit Kerem Valley Harvest
Olive harvest at Beit Kerem Valley launches despite the war on a lovely autumn morning. Hospitality, good energies mark Galilean Jewish-Arab co-existence

Khan Sha’ar Hagai, Commemorating Jerusalem Convoys
Khan Sha’ar Hagai Heritage Center is an exquisite, creative memorial to the heroic convoys battling to open the blockade on Jerusalem in 48. The museum is located in a renovated old khan which served travelers to Jerusalem since the 19th century.

Ben Gurion Museum Sde Boker – Lessons in Simplicity
Ben Gurion Museum, house and tomb in Sde Boker manifest simplicity and dignity in stark contrast with leaders today. Magnificent views of the Negev desert surround the area, and ibex herds graze around.

Iyon Stream Nature Reserve – And Tanur Waterfall
Iyon Stream Nature Reserve in the very north of the country hosts the most spectacular waterfall in Israel. Even in summer, the park is rich in riparian vegetation and the water is replete with fish.

Snir Stream Nature Reserve – Wading the Waters
Snir Stream Nature Reserve in Upper Galilee provides visitors with the fun and thrill of walking in the gushing water. Rich vegetation, kids wading pools, and great Druse pita as you wait in line.

Likir, Ladakh – Looking for “Baby”, Finding a Family
I arrived at Likir, Ladakh by chance, planning to go on the “Baby” trek, and had the best experience of my India trip. Homestaying with a wonderful family, eating in the field with the farmers after the harvest, peace, tranquility, beauty.

Udaipur on Rivers IV – Lake Pichola Boat Ride
Lake Pichola Boat Ride – wonderful opportunity to see the palaces on the islands and the shores. Magical sail. No need to pay for official tours.

Udaipur on Rivers III – Udaipur City Palace
Udaipur City Palace is an outstanding example of Indian architecture, art and the co-creation of the human with the landscape to the benefit of both. A must see!

Israeli Phenomenon in India Part 4 – The Spiritual Scene
The home-made Israeli spiritual scene in India ranges from the orthodox Beit Chabad to the innovative Beit Bina with the “Jewish Heart” in between. They all provide a warm home but with some strings attached, and a “protection” from the surrounding overwhelming “spiritual salad”.

The Israeli Phenomenon in India Part 5 – Music, Grass and the Spiritual Salad
Music, grass and the spiritual salad – the three occupations of Israelis in India outside of shopping… Western, Jewish and israeli involvement in Indian spiritual paths create interesting fusions that transform Israeli society, Judaism and India.

India’s Garbage Problem. Who Cleans India?
India’s garbage problem is vast. Animals clean but also trash. Environmental education is a drop in bucket. Infrastructure is lacking since most people don’t pay tax. Cleaning is highly gendered.

Blame
I abjure responsibility for:
Colonialism,
White Privilege,
Slavery.
The Crucifixion,
The Book of Joshua,
The Settlements.

The Tamed Shrew
What a waste
The tamed shrew –
She could have won an Olympic gold,
She could have been a magnificent mime,
She could have written plays better than Shakespeare,
Excuse the sacrilege

Letter to the Americas
Dear New Worlders,
We heard about your latest mass shooting ,
So we thought we’ll just mention, if we may,
that
Oh, we’ve seen it all already –

Galleries
Since a big part of this website is dedicated to world traveling, this collection of photo galleries is focused on the beauty, variety and creativity of the Land of Israel. An emphasis on the desert will soon be balanced with more pictures from the North and Center.
